Information
This session will bring our focus to the importance of public diplomacy in promoting inter-Korean relations and peaceful reunification, and the necessity of public diplomatic approaches at the local government level. The principles of public diplomacy boil down to government-civic society partnership that pursues multi-lateral, cultural and international diplomacy and overcomes the limitations of political diplomacy at the government level. Public diplomacy in the private sector often prevents political uncertainties and stalemates which are often seen in official diplomacy.

Under the safety net provided by the government, people-to-people exchanges in culture, sport, and many more can make a breakthrough in diplomacy between nations. PyeongChang 2018 was a great example.
This session talks about examples of public diplomacy approaches, and how this approach can contribute to peace and prosperity in Gangwon province for both the South and the North. Public diplomacy takes place in geographical areas and spheres.

This session will also have presentations and discussions on various approaches of public diplomacy for Geneva and Washington, the UN Sustainable Development Goals and climate change, culture and sport,
and Goseong UN Peace City Project.
This session is not for expert debates but for diplomatic networking and mutual understanding. Potential partners for Gangwon province will meet with each other and briefly talk about public diplomacy from their perspectives. At the end of the session, the Gangwon Public Diplomacy Forum will be officially launched under the leadership of Governor CHOI Moon-soon.
