Information
PyeongChang 2018 opened the door of opportunity for face-to-face encounters at all levels, from athletes to high-level officials between the two Koreas, which eventually led to the peace talks at the inter-Korean summits, the summit meetings between South Korea and the U.S, and the summit meetings between North Korea and the U.S. Therefore, it is not an exaggeration that PyeongChang is considered the birthplace of the historic peace-making process taking place on the Korean Peninsula.

We now call this process, determination, and the global advocacy for establishing a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula the "PyeongChang Peace Spirit“. 2020 PyeongChang Peace Forum that continues the PyeongChang Peace Spirit and serves as a key Olympic Legacy, becomes a great platform for discussing perspectives and action plans on building peace through sport.

This session will bring together the members of the IOC as well as stakeholders from the PyeongChang 2018 Legacy Foundation to discuss Olympic Truce and to explore ways to host the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games jointly with North Korea with an ultimate goal of building peace through sport once again. The topic of this session holds great significance in the sense that the Olympic value of Peace through Sport pursues the common goals with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN and the global community. The peace building process through sport events can also be examined in the light of its value as public diplomacy.
