2022 is the 140th anniversary of Korea-U.S. diplomatic relations. Korea’s Joseon Dynasty and the United States established diplomatic relations under the 1882 Treaty of Peace, Amity, Commerce, and Navigation. Through liberal democracy, market economy, and security based on the ROK-U.S. alliance, South Korea became a world economic and cultural power. In this era of U.S.-China rivalry in East Asia, we would like to explore the historical significance of Korea-U.S. diplomatic relations and the direction of strategy for peace in the Korean Peninsula and East Asia.

Organization Information
Association for 140th Anniversary of Korea-U.S. Treaty of 1882 is established to commemorate and further the legacy of the United States-Korea Treaty of 1882 for development of Korea-U.S. relations. The association conducts projects including domestic and international academic conferences, the Korea-U.S. exchange program, declaration of a joint statement, and visitation to the U.S. Government for the reinforcement of the Korea-U.S. relations.
